You can't see it in the scan, but Beetle's goggles are covered in an eighth of an inch or more of gloss varnish, to make them shiny and goggly and add depth. It also holds the epoxy-sticker letters on and increases their shine. (There's also a coat of matte varnish on the rest, to keep it from scratching off in my bag.)
