Craft Time! Make a crapass phone pouch for free - or near as dammit.

So when I was on vacation, I bought too much crap and needed another carry-on:

It worked fine. With a little tweaking:

Except that it has no pockets or dividers, so I lost this in it for like five days last week:

'Cause I'd turned it off, so I couldn't find it by the noise. So when I found it again, I realized I needed some kind of pouch for it. Unfortunately, I was at work so I couldn't just tie on that nifty hedgehog pouch that [livejournal.com profile] nitasee gave me. But I did have a couple of those stupid can cosies, a lanyard, needle and thread, and a roll of duct tape:

So I made two kinds. The first one, I decided to keep the round can shape, so I sewed around the bottom:

And got a cylin...cyl...barrel shape:

Then I covered it with the duct tape. The tape doesn't stick to the fabric terribly well, but it sticks well enough to itself:

I drilled holes for the lanyard (start with a needle hole, and work your way up with whatever's at hand until you can jam a ballpoint pen through it):

Then I cut the lanyard, and threaded it through the holes, with the clippy bit left on in case I need to clip on my bus pass or security card or whatever:

See how it comes out the back holes there? No? Well, I forgot to photograph that, but it totally does. Then I took the ends and knotted them around the bag handle:

Making sure that the pouch hangs on the inside. Rock.

For the other pouch, I cut one part of the flappy end, so it would make a, er, flap. Then I sewed the opening shut, flatways:

I sewed a button on, and cut a hole for it:

Wrapped the bottom in tape:

And the flap and the buttonhole, because the rubbery knit stuff felt a bit fragile when I buttoned it. Then I took the leftover bits of the lanyard, and sewed them to the back of the pouch:

And tied them on the bag:

The end.
