Dammit, Jon!

But I don't want to watch the Oscars!

Oh God, I hate the Oscars. AND YET, NOW I AM COMPELLED.

Rejoice! Rejoice. You have no choice, rejoice...

[identity profile] nitasee.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm indifferent to them but now the power of The Daily Show compells me.

[identity profile] randomways.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 05:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Then don't, dammit. You have to learn to be strong...be woman...be-bop. Besides, they've been going downhill ever since "The Devil in Miss Jones" was shut out in the Best Over-Animation category.

(Also, I can't stand Stewart, so the choice is easy for me.)

I'm compelled because inevitably someone is going to do something mind-boggingly nuts on purpose to increase their Q-rating and I don't want to have to depend on The Boring Show The Daily Show for clips.

It must've been the peyote.

The boyfriend and I were having this same discussion when we found out.

BTW

Awhile back in a [livejournal.com profile] heykidzcomix post, you recommended Kyle Baker's "Plastic Man: On the Lam". My local store only had "Rubber Bandits" which I enjoyed tremendously (I plan to get "On the Lam") so thanks for the rec!

Pleasure! heykidz originally recommended Rubber Bandits to me, so it's a privilige...lege...thing to share the love. Privelidge. Pirvlinge. Hell.

You would want to if you sat through last year's Oscars with Chris Rock as the unfunniest, most out-of-touch host in the history of time.

[identity profile] dwinghy.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh come now. Surely you remember Whoopie Goldberg.

Personally, I'm elated, because I always watch the Oscars anyway. BECAUSE I HAVE NO TASTE.

[identity profile] ahli.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
But Whoopi wasn't afraid to wear outfits inspired by the best costume design nominees and look fantastically stupid.
I always watch the oscars, too. Because I like yelling at my tv.

[identity profile] dwinghy.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. The Oscars are good for armchair quarterbacks who don't like football but want to yell at the TV.

I thought that's what the Westminster Dog Show was for.

[identity profile] oliveoyl.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
:)

I love the Oscars. No really. I used to get dressed up for them in outrageous outfits (ie, leggings and scarfs and costume jewelry). <3

[identity profile] ahli.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I had an oscar party in university once and got all dressed up. *shame* XD

You'll watch the Oscars and you'll like them, young lady! Why, when I was a kid, we BEGGED to see the Oscars. Back then, it was just one award, for best actor. Well, film hadn't been invented yet and women weren't allowed on stages, so one Oscar was all we needed. It traveled the countryside, strapped to the back of a covered wagon, and we'd ooooh and aaaaah as it passed through our little ghosttown. Wouldnt' stop for us, no, couldn't do that, too hard to get the horses starting up agin, dontcha know.

Afterwards, we'd all trudge uphill to the homestead again (it was uphill getting to town too, go figure) and git stuck back into reading by the firelight and ciphering on the back of the shovel blade with a bit of coal.

HEY! Wake up! I'm talking at ya!

I said the same

[identity profile] mauftarkie.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I may TiVo it and ffwd the boring bits. I think it's a secret plan to raise ratings. Sadly, it's working.

[identity profile] theodicy.livejournal.com 2006-01-05 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, I know. Happy sedatives will be provided.

[identity profile] robanybody.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Not even the power of Jon's weaselly little laugh can compel me to watch the Oscars.

[identity profile] fictionbya.livejournal.com 2006-01-06 03:37 am (UTC)(link)

Now I have to watch it too. He better make it GOOD!
