So. Donnie finally came and got his antique...table...thing, and I've been trying to find a computer desk to replace it. More precisely, I've been trying to find a particular model at Target, but all their desks are sold out, what with it being back to school time and all. I finally said fuck it, and got a console table in the same style. I can replace it with the desk later, and use it elsewhere.

Montage: endless rasslin' with box, shopping cart, car trunk, back door, etc.

Saturday I decided I'd put it together. The unboxing was awful, as always. The minimal parts made assembly a snap. UNTIL...

Okay. There are supposed to be two holes in this thing. Right here. It says on the diagram. Right here. There are no holes right here. I am not holding the part upside-down. There are camshafts, but no holes to connect them.

I am not taking this apart, repacking it, and taking it back to the store. I refuse. Besides, I have...a power drill. Which needs charging. Dammit.

While I love my drill dearly, it doesn't have a bit big enough to drill the needed pinky-size hole. Cue several hours of sculpting giant hole with small bit, including much trial and error with assembly, bent screw thingies (they're cheap; they bend back), and awful shriek when the tabletop slams down on a fingertip. Still less trouble than returning it to the store.

So I have a table now, and it looks rather nice.
