sometimes it's just easier to navigate by places i've been injured in this town.

I finally figured out that the antiques store where I tripped over the crossbow* is a five-minute walk from our new building. Yay!

Found some awesome late-60s doll props (record player, TV, suitcase). Laughed at certain sellers' inability to date the most basic items (Yes, Barbie says 1966 on her neck. This does not mean that's when she was made, you dumb cluck.). Was horrified by Jerry Springer. It was sort of like being at my sister's house, except nobody was playing Michael McDonald albums. Thank Christ.

Also, the sidewalk cement outside the store has dog footprints in it. Labrador size. That will never not be funny.

*There's an entry for it somewhere, but I couldn't tell you when. Somebody decided the floor was a good place to display a crossbow. A crossbow. Sadly, it wasn't arrowed up, or the noise I made would have been THUNKCLANGOWJESUSsffflangTHOCKonggggggg, instead of just THUNKCLANGOWJESUS.

i'll never work in that town

If I made Battlestar Galactica, I would have them all sing "One Toke Over the Line" instead.

'Prisoner' actor Patrick McGoohan dies in LA

Jan 14th, 2009 | LOS ANGELES -- Patrick McGoohan, an Emmy-winning actor who created and starred in the cult classic television show "The Prisoner," has died. He was 80.

McGoohan died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a short illness, his son-in-law, film producer Cleve Landsberg, said Wednesday.

McGoohan won two Emmys for his work on the Peter Falk detective drama "Columbo," and more recently appeared as King Edward Longshanks in the 1995 Mel Gibson film "Braveheart."

But he was best known as the title character Number Six in "The Prisoner," a surreal 1960s British series in which a former spy is held captive in a small village and constantly tries to escape.

I can't be in love if it's plastic

Thanks to the miracle of the region-free DVD player, I've been watching something called Snuff Box. Which is sketch comedy, except when it's being a sitcom. With music. And porn. And savage beatings. Also there are hangings, time travel, and whores. It's surreal and dreamlike, though not necessarily a good dream.

(These videos are NSFW, NSF small children, and probably not something you want to play in the house with all the relatives there for Thanksgiving. Unless your relatives are like mine, in which case, turn up the volume.)

Here is a small example of what goes on:

That's Darkplace's Matt Berry as...Matt Berry, utter swine, dick, and fuckhead. He does this sort of thing a lot.

There are also songs, usually variations of this tune:

I really like the girl on the Channel 8 morning news. Today she pronounced "analogy" with a long 'A' in the first syllable.

So. Second Wednesday in a row spent cowering in the basement, listening to the tornado sirens go off. I cannot begin to describe how annoying and scary this is. Also dull. The accumulating stress is making the entire city go wiggy.

Channel 8 weather guy, as a rule, starts to lose steam after the first hour and a half, and starts coming out with things like, "Tornados are bad." Last night he was reduced to drawing new warnings on the screen with that pen thing sports announcers use, because the staff just couldn't keep up. It was rather charming, really.

Window developed a massive leak right onto a bookcase. Fortunately the only things lost were old mixtapes and VHS cassettes that needed to be got rid of anyway. Tried to go out and look at it from outside, but the rain was overflowing the gutters and I only got a thorough dousing for my trouble. I lost my cellphone in all the towels, and had to call myself several times to find it. Morning revealed a sinkhole-like feature that will need to be filled in.

Deb is related to one of the poor kids who was killed by the storm, so I am glad I did not explain my morning tardiness as being due to having to pick bits of boy scout out of the chimney.

...I didn't read how he died because I'd prefer to think that he giggled himself to death at Tim Conway's ad-libbed shenanigans.

"We got a lot of e-mails saying, Fuck, that's hideous."

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Spaced-The-Complete-Series/9561 says:

Yesterday we posted the press release from BBC Video for Spaced - The Complete Series, coming to stores in North America on July 22nd. Our story included your first look at the package art for this long-awaited box set, which we obtained from BBC sources. However, since posting the artwork yesterday, we've seen numerous fan questions about whether this is the final version of the artwork for this set.

This morning we spoke to a BBC PR representative about this, and we were told that this picture (shown again below) was actually only draft art, and possibly shouldn't have gone out just yet. The final package art hasn't been approved, we're informed. It could look similar, or maybe quite different...we're not sure at this time. Stay tuned, though, and we'll bring the final version to you just as soon as we can!
