It's unusually tidy down here, and growing moreso. It's unnerving.

Took the various recent book memes and lists in hand and went down to the used bookstore at lunch. Came out with Harriet the Spy, The Ear the Eye and the Arm, a nice hardcover In Cold Blood with dustjacket, something by Collette, and...I forget the other thing, all for $18. (Also got a nice hardback Tom Sawyer last week, so I feel human now.) My man Cinnamon* rang me up:

Cinnamon: Harriet the Spy! Good choice, Ann!
Ann: I'm gonna read the damn thing if it kills me. This'll be my third or fourth try.
Cinnamon: Harriet's great! She's a role model for us.
Ann: I get all freaked out. I mean, this little bitty girl running around alone in...
Cinnamon: ...in New York City.
Ann: It can't end well!
Cinnamon: It's great!
Ann: I'm all, if this were an episode of Law and Order, Harriet would be in a Hefty bag in the Fresh Kills landfill by the end of the second chapter.
Cinnamon: Noooooooooooo, she'll be okay.
Ann: Okay.

*Cinnamon is not a man.
