For those who have enjoyed the Hildebrandts' LOTR illustrations - who knew that Rivendell was in Mickey's Toontown? - the Bros are now offering their take on G.I. Joe:

The picture is small, and I'm glad.

You know, I was never terribly fond of the Hildebrants' work--except for that one kick-ass illo of Eowyn vs. the Nazgul. For LOTR (well, The Hobbit) art, I always preferred Tim--Tim--oh fuck, what was his last name?? Ann? Help me out here...

It reminds me vaugleyof the episode of Jonny Quest with the lizard men.

But, yanno, sometimes pants remind me of random things, so it proably doesn't mean anything.

If the Lizard Men episode had been designed by the illustrators of various European chocolate boxes, anyway...

What, not with the liking of Tim Kirk?

That one Tolkien calendar of his back in--'74? was one of the coolest things I thought a fan could find.

This is uglier than most of their crap -- the color scheme is still their trademark purple and yellow, though. (Apropos for this weekend, if nothing else.)

You know what always weirded me out about their fantasy stuff? Everybody -- EVERYBODY -- in those paintings looked like dwarves! Deformity gone amok!
