Took Mom in for maintenance this morning. Her BP is actually below 150 most of the time for the first time in at least a year, apparently thanks to Dr Pinhead's new meds. ("Is it wrong to be amazed that something these assholes gave you actually works?" "No. I am.") So yay.

I hate her doctor's waiting room. One of those horrible beige-and-violet things, with steel chairs and a television playing fake health "news" that can't be turned off. Add the hospital smell and you've got a total spirit-crusher of an establishment. Feh. Dr Coffman's dark-paneled, owl-infested waiting room is depressingly prefab southern gothic, but at least it actively wants you dead, instead of going after you with passive-aggressive blandness. And there's no stupid tv.

Stopped at B&N for new Newtype and manga (Kodocha 8 and Demon Diary 2). Again, yay.

I would like to go to sleep for a very long time.

the doctor's waiting room strategy is to secretly suck out your soul and make you docile, or at least in doubt of your own sanity, in case the doctor doesn't know what is wrong and has to bullshit. that way you're more likely to go along with it.

Hmmm...I'll have to check that out when next I go graphic novel hunting. I usually go on the first of the month so I get all the new stuff. And I usually go to Waldenbooks because they put out the next volume of Mars on the first instead of the 15th when everywhere else says it's going to come out. *pets waldenbooks*

The last time someone tried that on me was when that asshead counselor suggested I join the Methodist Singles Group, because they have great annual Super Bowl parties. Suddenly: "I see stupid people. They're everywhere. Most of them don't know they're stupid."

I'm so glad that Dr Ware, once he left the soul-sucking Durham Clinic, never ever used that awful medical tv crap. It's like being stuck in an endless commercial. Oh, and he has Monet prints in his office. Not original, but you can live with it. At least his art is from an artist that you've heard of and doesn't do greeting cards.

I was so gobsmacked that I couldn't even begin to explain to this guy that (a) having grown up in a suburban neighborhood in the 60s, I despise potlucks and (b) the last time I watched the Super Bowl, it was to fucking well watch the first episode of The A-Team afterward.

I adore Mars and I am sad that it is only 15 volumes. However! It looks like it is wrapping up for a nice ending, so if that's the case I'll be happy. Best to end it while it's good instead of a) ending it without ending or b) pulling a Takahashi and sucking the life out of it for 239840824 more volumes.

I've only read the first volume of Confidential Confessions, but liked it.

And I'm upset that the next volume of FAKE doesn't come out until September. *fume*

Our office is trying to get into the Inspirational Poster kinda thing, supplied on a monthly basis by the EAP. It doesn't work too well, since we tend to hang them at knee-level. There's one by the fax machine with a picture of Ayers Rock on it that says INTEGRITY. I feel like scrawling OPPRESS THE INDIGENOUS POPULATION over it, but don't, mostly because I don't want to hear "What's 'in...di...genius?'" over and over.
