There's a higher standard of middling now, I think, in that the crappy records tend to be crappy in a uniform way. It's a lot easier to tune out "Jenny from the Block" than "With You I'm Born Again." On the other hand, "With You I'm Born Again" is much, much funnier.
But early-70s bad, like Bloodrock, or Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods, or early Cher, is so hilarious that it dulls the pain.
