Went to Target for yogurt and dishwasher soap. Pointed out to Mom that she can now buy movies instead of...er...not being able to buy movies.* She actually went into the DVD aisle voluntarily, and discovered for herself the astonishingly high number of movies that one wouldn't watch on a bet, let alone pay for. Got a bit hangdog, then started to do the breakable-old-person equivalent of bouncing up and down on her toes and squeaking: "Is that The Manchurian Candidate? The real one? With Laurence Harvey and...uh...Jessica?" By golly, it was.

Spent rest of afternoon with The Manchurian Candidate in widescreen and some perfectly foul microwave popcorn we got in a Christmas gift basket. Highly recommended to you all as a good investment of $7.50. "But I don't wanna make out, Mom!" is current household catchphrase.

*"I wish I'd said that."
"You will, Oscar, you will."

isn't that movie fabulous? i wish the remake had kept that ladies' garden club meeting. and the walking into central park lake.

did you watch the extras? and how they had to break up the ice on the lake that day with... um... i think some kind of power equipment before harvey could jump in?

Has your mom been introduced to the wonders of DVD box sets of old TV shows? Because I find that aspect the most addictive thing about the DVD format.
Also, oh lordy do I love The Manchurian Candidate.

I'm breaking her in slowly. I left The Lone Gunmen in the video cabinet. When Brisco comes out, her head will explode.
