My poor alarm clock -- the one that made bird noises and got in the fight with the cardinal that time -- committed suicide rather than continue to live with me. Okay, it didn't. But the turn-the-alarm-off switch won't turn off anymore, and that's, like, one of yer key switches in an alarm clock. So it got a dignified burial at sea. If the kitchen wastebasket counts as the sea. For small electronics funereal purposes, it does.

So I got the other one out of the other bedroom. It's a sort of round boombox thingie, like Jigglypuff crossed with the Death Star. Very fancy, but very cheap because it was a floor model off a Target end cap. With no manual. And a lot of buttons and functions: Alarm A, Alarm B, nap alarm, set the time, set the alarm time, set the other alarm time, tune the radio, turn up the volume, pick the CD track, pause, beverage warmer, lotion dispenser, and dimensional portal interface. There's also a bizarre little umbilical noodle that I think is the radio antenna.

I hope it's the radio antenna. If not, when I come home tonight, the reading lamp will be pregnant. On the other hand, we need the bulbs. What the hell was I talking about?

Oh. Well, I figured out how to set the alarm to work the CD player, and popped in the Noir soundtrack. And never thought about the necessity of checking the volume setting.

I am really, really awake now.

Here's the song, as seen on TV:

I think I would have been more freaked by "Salva Nos" or the one with the bagpipes. :)

Noir looks like Dirty Pair got together and had a couple of clone-babies. What is it about a couple of slight, doe-eyed young ladies who can kill you with their pinkie fingers that we love so much, we get a new set every generation?

We had an imported alarm clock of a green cow dressed as a farmer who would yell, "Mooooo! Time to get up and feed the chickens! MOOOOOO!" in a deep-voiced Japanese accent that our cat hated so much, he'd fling it across the room with his paw every time the alarm went off. That one didn't last very long.

There needs to be a clock you can program with little .wav files or mp3s. Then I could be terrified awake by Bill Bailey shouting, "I'M INSIDE YOUR EYES!" And then die. And then never have to go back to work again.

I think there is an iPod gadget that allows you to link it up as an alarm clock.

When I first got my CD-radio alarm clock (the same one I have now, fifteen years later...really need to get round to replacing it...), I was very fond of setting The Lion King soundtrack as my alarm.

The first track.

Effective! But man, my roommate was pissed.

D. has an awfully complicated alarm like your deathstar thingy. Sometimes she forgets to turn it off before she goes travelling, when I come to sit the cats...I can't make it shut up or change the time or anything. At best I manage to delay the noise for 2 mins. And I don't dare to pull the plug because she would be mad at me if she had to recalibrate everything.

I just pile lots of things on it. Bed cloth and things.

wouldn't that be great? Your reading lamp gets bigger and brighter until one day it just pops out little baby bulbs that you can start off in a flashlight or nightlight until they grow up to be adult bulbs.

Also, icon love. "We've switched Peter Petrelli's Blue Mountain Jamaican with Folger's Crystals. Let's see if--ack--" "KILLLLLLL!"

Oh, THAT song. Not sure if that's better or worse than the Clamp Campus Detectives theme. (Actually, who did that song for Noir? It sounds a lot like Ali Project.)

Everything except the opening and ending themes, apparently. Or rather s/he didn't sing either, if the track listing here is accurate.
