Thank you. The office is lovely and I can hide out in McDonalds until the last bus home.
Last night I lay awake until 3 or 4...and then THUNDERSTORM. I think I punched the clock when the alarm went off and woke up 15 minutes before I was supposed to be at work.
They upgraded the break rooms while we were exiled to the pawn and liquor district. They have big screen TVs and juice in the vending machines. Also, downstairs now sells HOT FOOD at lunchtime.
I've had very good luck with fans--especially if you have two windows where you can set up one small window fan to blow in air and a second one to exhaust it. Not only are fans much cheaper to buy than air conditioners, they cost MUCH less to run.
If you have a Nextdoor group where you live, sign up--people are always selling used air conditioners. And I've gotten (working) used fans at yard sales.
I've got a lead on a bigger swamp cooler, and I can put a thing of ice in front of the big fan hopefully without electrocuting myself.
Jerry the furnace guy will come tomorrow for an estimate. ATM their earliest installation date is the 22nd, but there's always the hope that a customer will have a heart attack or something. Daytime there's always someplace to hunker down with a book. Sleeping is gonna be the bitch.
Yeah, hear you about the sleeping. When my AC went out a few years ago, I got a hotel room for a couple of nights. Thankfully, I was able wrangle a discount from the hotel.
$100 is like a day at Disneyworld! A day and half tops.
Actually you might ask if they give discounts to government workers. Back when I worked for the city, and I had to stay overnight because of an AC problem, the hotel clerk worked with me and found that the hotel chain did offer that kind of thing. Also, if you have ah, ahem, an AARP membership, you can get a discount via them. I don't remember what kind of discount they gave me a couple of years ago - which was the other time my AC broke down.
Oh, my bad. 13 would be like days is a week at Disneyland. I guess I was thinking if you just needed one night to get way from it. Sometimes my brain does not connect.
