We watched Johnny Mnemonic, which was not in any way a good movie, though absolutely not the worst SF I've ever seen (that honor still goes to Altman's Quintet, which is only good as knitting porn). Robert Longo is a fine artist and great at shorts but hiring him for this was not a particularly good idea.

BUT it had Henry Rollins, Ice-T, and Beat Takeshi, which made it fucking awesome. T has that James Garner thing where he works really hard to look like he's just showing up, and the audience is all, Ice-T is here, we'll be okay.

I watched an astonishing amount of Rockford Files because James Garner was intensely watchable. I even tolerated him being the worst thing in Victor Victoria! But his finest hour, or 92mins, was probably Support Your Local Sheriff. Oh, I'm sorry, was your post not about James Garner? ;-)

Ice-T is also, of course, endlessly entertaining and even managed to make twitter bearable occasionally.

Also there's an unintentionally hilarious bit in Space Cowboys where Clint Eastwood tries to make a convincing shot of his Extremely Old Cast, including James Garner with his famously fragile kneecaps, look like they're running track.

It was a movie about Right Stuff-era fighter pilots who were supposed to become astronauts but didn't, and got called back to a space mission 50 years later for plot reasons. A few years later they would've just Serkised them running for a few seconds, or better yet Eastwood could've just had them sitting covered in sweat on a bench ("Am I dying? I think I'm dying." "Don't die out here, the Russian spy satellites will see you keel over."). Actually now I can think of at least three different ways to convincingly stage that scene, but as we all know, Clint doesn't care to take advice from girls.

Eastwood is famous for three things afaik:
1. Not acting in Spaghetti Westerns (I'm including Dirty Harry in this category);
2. Telling an orangutan, "Right turn, Clyde."
3. Being an asshole irl.

Last night we watched Minority Report, which was actually a good cyberpunk movie, except that Tom Cruise was In A Mood through the whole thing and you ended up being interested in the puzzle but not really giving a shit about the main character.

I saw that one in the cinema actually, back when it was, well, in the cinema and I had much less of an idea who Tom Cruise was. That's so long ago that my memory is worthless but I remember it as a solid movie with next to no surprises and much less scary than, say, Brazil on account of the not caring about main guy.

I need to listen to that song they made of his film set breakdown again, that was good.

That was Christian Bale (the song is "Bale Out"). It got wiped from itunes but you can usually find a version on youtube.

No wonder I couldn't find it on my own computer then!!!! Turns out I have two version, one is a mash up with Obama quotes for some reason, and a big disappointment. But back on the MP3 player with the good one! It can join the Isengard thing and the EBaum's world dramatics reading and the audio of the first chapter of my immortal.
