I should clarify, for folks outside my immediate linguistic area, that a ground squirrel is what people in other parts call a chipmunk. It is not a squirrel that has been through a meat processing plant or otherwise maimed.
You can, however, observe maimed, flattened, squished, and yes, even *ground* squirrels aplenty this time of year, thanks to our fine road system and the availability of relativley inexpensive gasoline. The giant Belgian Draft Crows love 'em.
