Oct. 5th, 2003 10:14 pmThe schmucks from the whaling ship Jungfrau come over to the Pequod to borrow a cup of...whale oil. Really. Ishmael assures us that this sort of thing happens all the time and should not be taken as an indication that the Jungfrau is crewed by a bunch of skeeves, pinheads, and oiks.
However, the neighborliness is interrupted by a pod of whales going by. Everybody drops what they're doing and heads for their boats. The Pequoders easily outdistance the Frauleins, and succeed in killing a rather clapped-out, one-finned, crippled, tumourous old whale...which promptly sinks.
Ishmael assures us that sometimes, this sort of thing just happens.
Kind of revolting, really.
