Today's achievement: Successfully applied copper grommits to - or is it through? - a brown paper bag.

I would say "applied to", because the grommet is going onto the fabric - or in this case, bag - but it just happens to have a hole in it. Yeah. ... By the way, why DID you put them on a brown paper bag?

NO, we have those too. I think grommits are like little tubes that go through to the ear drum to let the sounds in properly.
