Still trying to find the Parental Unit a VHS copy of Space Cowboys - it'll go to sell-through in September, but it sucks that she has to wait. Anyway, I checked the downtown Blockbuster yesterday lunch, and while they were cowboy-free, they did have a Previously Viewed tape with all four episodes of Blue Submarine No. 6. Cheap anime that's been well reviewed? I'm all over that.

So we sent out for pizza tonight and shoved it in the machine.

Gorgeous animation. Just amazing. And rather a good dub.

Story...um...well, it's more comprehensible than Akira, but the fucking King James Bible is more comprehensible than Akira. Characters do stuff for no real reason. Villains that you want to slap with a thick slice of ham, including one who - well, if you've seen it, you know there's never been anyone better suited to the phrase 'chews the scenery.' I began to wonder if we were actually watching an entirely different movie, maybe 'Citizen Kane' or 'Terminator,' but someone had put LSD in the pizza.

If I did the marry-jee-wanna, I'd recommend watching it stoned.

Heck, even lawyer-speak is less confusing than Akira.
