One of Those Dreams last night. This time, a cheapish time travel TV series made in (it said in the credits, I swear) Tasmania, starring Vincent D'Onofrio as an unkempt, Ken Shabby-type chrononaut who has to clean up other people's messes when they fuck up the continuum in horrific ways. For example, last night somebody did something that resulted in Joe Orton* growing up to be a serial killer whose weapon of choice was a large wooden gavel. In unbelievably gory detail and Sensurround[TM]. Thanks, brain. Thanks so much.

Last thought before waking: Gee, this must've been made before they started filming Criminal Intent.

*For those of you who are not PollyAnne, protopunkish UK playwright of the 1960s.

Has Vincent D'Onofrio has been haunting you? Thanks to a comment of yours I think I read somewhere, I now see him as a latter-day James T. Kirk--or at least his CI character. "What is . . . theproblem? I think . . . I . . . cansolveitsoon!" Feh.

It's just that once . . . I . . . heardabouttheproblem . . . it . . . became . . .difficulttoignore! Honestly, though--I *do* like him, even though I'm going to murder everyone associated with Criminal Intent if they don't give the female cop some goddamned LINES pretty soon. She might be interesting if she were ever allowed to talk.

Seriously, though. When you get to the point where you want desperately for the "mastermind detective" to fail, you know there's been a slight problem with character development . . . She needs to kick his ass, hard, then go over to SVU and replace Ice-T.

The really annoying thing is, when they allow her to speak, she's funnier'n a crutch.

Much as it sickens me to say it, I actually like Ice-T on SVU. He's Mr T's son, you know.

Still, Eames partnered with Munch would be better than ice cream sammiches. Though she might interfere with Eliot and Olivia's little angstfest-a-deux when she innocently asks why they don't just take five minutes to calm the fuck down so they can do their jobs.

Well, now *that* puts a new spin on things. If Ice-T would grow a mohawk, I might warm up to him. Seriously, I think I never got over the loss of Brian Cassidy (sp).--I *loved* the actor who played him and whose name I now can't remember--Dean! Dean Winter?--in comparison with him Ice-T's acting skills just . . . aren't. OTOH, the character of Brian Cassidy was, unfortunately, terminally boring, so it was a tough call about what to do with him, I think. I think SVU is actually one of the most improved shows ever--it's really turned itself around. I actually think it's the best of all current L&O incarnations. Either that or my insane love of all things L&O has rendered me incapable of judgment.

Eames and Munch would be wonderfully snarky and world-weary together; she almost reminds me of Kay Howard sometimes.

I started out hating Olivia beyond all reasonable measure but lately she's grown on me. But you're right--she and Eliot are too much sometimes.

One final thing I think is that I think I say "I think" too much. I think.

Brian...oh, Lenny's little nephew, Deadwood Briscoe. He was...he sure took up space in a room!

Olivia and Elliot seriously need to be separated and put in therapy.

I'm currently fondest of CI, despite the producers' tendency to forget that there are other cast members. C'mon, Dick, give the D'O a day off once in a while. He looks tired. You've got RANDALL FLAGG under contract, for God's sake!

I wonder if Sam Waterston and Fred Dalton Thompson ever get in fistfights between takes...

Wow--yeah. Just read a bio of FDT. He exudes a butchness beyond butchness.

I don't know. Was there a lot of blood-soaked mallet-whacking in Up Against It?
