Thanks, Ann. I'll make a stink about this in my own journal when I get home. In the meantime, I suggest that EVERYONE call their old alma mater and warn them. Immediately.
"Recruiters are up-front about their plans to use school lists to aggressively pursue students through mailings, phone calls, and personal visits -- even if parents object."
So much for the "pro-family" party, eh?
Be glad about it, actually. Enough of these stunts and maybe people will figure out there IS a difference between Democrats and Republicans.
I'm not gonna read the article, because being pregnant makes me throw up enough, thanks, so can somebody tell me if my suspicion that private school students get left entirely out of this is accurate? The expensively privately educated Common Reader wants to know.
We gave up too many freedoms with this president. Especially after September 11th. People wanted to feel safer, so they turned a blind eye thinking why not. This is why not. If you give the government an inch, they break your legs and drag you a mile.
Oh, this is a question I know the answer to. They sometimes don't take the kid off the list for such a minor thing as death. Imagine the fun for the mourning family.
The boy is his daddy's son. If the kid dies-Compassionate Conservative my ass. I love how the Republicans are always saying "Less Government Interference!" and yet pulling this shit. Apparently, the LGI concept only applies to resource extraction and labor issues. Also noticed the anti-gay tie-in. Most school who deny the military access do so because of its anti-gay discrimination, so basically they've found a way to financially punish any public school that stands up for gay rights.
I went ahead and read it... so I got to find out for my own little self the brand new way in which the children of the elite get to have so very much of a nicer time of it.
Okay, I hate to do this, except that I don't because I sorta enjoy being confrontational, but at least in SF the gay discrimination issue is a screen for rampant dirty hippie-ism. They're not denying the military access because the military discriminates against gay people; they're just gleeful that they found a politically unassailable excuse to not let 'em on campus. If all the Joint Chiefs of Staff come out of the closet tomorrow, SF Unified isn't going to call up the recruiting offices and say COME ON DOWN.
I'll have to take you word for that, being that I know nothing about SF local politics. However, I know that is not the case for the Portland School District (my hometown), and I would suspect this is not the case for other school districts that enacted similar bans.

Mind you, I've never even actually attended an actual high school per se.

You probably wish to continue this particular line of discussion in your own journal.
