I had an eBay auction finish today, for no small amount of money, and the high bidder does not seem to actually exist. His e-mail address is invalid, and his eBay record consists of two retracted bids.
I've written eBay to see if they can offer any assistance, though I doubt they can or will do anything.
Suggestions, anyone?

Meanwhile, they've offered to give me his address and phone number so that I can contact him offline if I wish - noting that they will be required to give him my number in return. Oh, yeah, that's practicing good online safety - give your contact information to someone who's already gone to some effort to screw you. It's a good idea!
