...muttermuttermutte rcall yourself a librarian muttermuttermutter...

The Moomins. They live in Moominvalley, along with various and sundry friends such as the Silk Monkey, Snufkin, Sniff, Mymble, the Hemulin, the Snork Maiden, Little My, et al. Go into the children's section and peruse the works of Finland's greatest export, Ms Tove Jansson. The English editions are hopelessly out of order, but Finn Family Moomintroll is an excellent place to start.

Am I allowed to be skeered?

(I am constantly amazed at the amount of culture I am previously unexposed to when I read your journal, Ann...I stand in awe of your ability to find things that are new to me!)

FEAR MY FLYPAPER MEMORY FOR POP CULTURE!!!

The Moomins are keen. I met them at Gere Library back when I was still in single digits. Odd, moody little books - more like Felix Salten or Agnes Smith than L. Frank Baum. Imagine Charles Addams' version of the Smurfs...
