Singing the song aloud can sometimes erase it.

"It's a familiar pattern of itching and scratching," Dr. Kellaris says. "The only way to 'scratch' a cognitive itch is to rehearse the start involuntarily, as the brain detects an incongruity or something 'exceptional' in the musical stimulus."

So, whenever I start obsessing on "It's a Small World," I should sing it? Bystanders will beat me to death. Thank you, Dr. Kellaris.

And what if it's something that's catchy but hard to sing, like the theme from Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law?

Christ. I couldn't carry a tune, if you handed it to me at the end of a leash. The horror to be inflicted on bystanders. *hums Adaams Family theme*
