This evening I read a message, posted in a public place, from a person on whose board I was once a regular, asking why I no longer visited - though from her words she's apparently decided she already knows why (she's wrong).

I am amused. I left the board in question a good three or four months ago, without fuss, and I'm certainly not getting into a kerfuffle over it after the fact.

I'm not quite sure why I'm posting about such a minor incident, except that I've seen far too many people who find that they no longer like a list, a board, or even an actual person (two big middle fingers up to M on the very faint chance that one day I become insanely famous, the publishing world clamors for every word I've ever written, and in a typical fit of masochism she feels compelled to read the complete works), and rather than simply sign off, feel it necessary to announce to everyone that they're not being treated like the deity they are, or that the members are not behaving like real fans, or otherwise act like complete dicks, daring the mod to throw them off.

It just ain't that important, and you ain't that important, either. Unhappy? Say a polite goodbye, if you must say anything at all, and unsub. Don't tell the moderator she's doing it wrong - it's her playground and she gets to make the rules. Starting a new community, if you're inclined, is about as difficult as sitting on a nutpick. Don't start a flamewar and try to get people to pick sides - most of the members don't want to hear your whining, and the ones who get directly involved are stupid to do so.

Good God. I think I just made an actual rant.

Sorry. Carry on with your lives. Move along.
