Watched two episodes of Licensed by Royal with Incomprehensible Engrish Subtitles[TM]. It's charming as all get-out in an I-have-no-idea-what-you're-saying way. Plus, the theme tune is by Billy Preston. Will have to shell out for the US version so I can figure out what in God's name these people are saying.

I am glad that this thing's animated. Otherwise agents Row and Jack would smell like ashtrays.

Have you been clued into GreenCine yet? Dropped Netflix ages ago for these guys, and now the only time we buy anime is when it's something really special (MILLENNIUM ACTRESS HITS US SHELVES THIS TUESDAY), they have that many titles available.

L/R's English dub is quite nice, as they hired the same actual Brits they did for Hellsing.

I haven't actually rented a DVD yet, but I will pass this on to Sharon, who likes her Netflixes. (I KNOW I AM SO HET UP! I am happy when anime movies without Shit Blowing Up gets a push.)

I would not have bought L/R as a bootleg, but I had no idea it was getting a US release at the time. I've learned to check since then. Yes, I am a n00b.

I have not seen Hellsing. Apart from the pencil board. Any good?

Hellsing I wanted to like, but by about halfway through the series it started falling apart, and at the end it went all to hell; it's one of those shows where you watch it and think "y'know, this character's really cool, why aren't you showing his story instead of this goofy one?" That and it's super low budget; lots of freeze frames, recycled footage, stuff like that. Would be worth renting.

As far as not being up on what is and is not getting a US release: Mariela's list is friend to all children; Anime on DVD in general are good about keeping tabs on potential licenses as soon as they're spotted (say, a US production house name in the credits of something that just premiered on Japanese TV). At this point I end up just assuming anything that's new and reasonably popular will be coming out here somewhere down the line anyway.

You might get a bang out of Heat Guy J, on sale now from Pioneer. Have you seen Blackjack, btw?

Also, I finally saw an episode of this season's Dragnet last week. Wow, way to make a struggling show worse, fellas.

I'm sorry to hear that about Hellsing. On the other hand, it's another thing I don't Just Have to Watch, and that's not a bad thing.

Yes! I have met the list, and it is good. I still have to learn to pry myself out of my 1985 mentality. Y'know: "Oh God! This will never see the light of day over here! Sob! Weep!"

Heat Guy J is supposed to be on MTV around the turn of the year, so I hope to get a look at it then. It's been getting glowing write-ups everywhere.

I have read some Black Jack stories, but never seen him animated. Good stuff?

I've been taping new Dragnet, because it's on at a crappy time for me, but I can't quite bring myself to watch. The bits I've seen, Joe hardly looks insane at all. And there won't be that constant worry that Frank is going to start burying nuts and climbing trees. :(

I finally saw a preview for that last night. Giggled tremendously. Billy Preston? You're kidding?

Honest for true. If I were going to make up a contributor to an anime soundtrack, Billy Preston wouldn't even occur to me.
