phosfateThe Pequod spends some time around Java (east of Krakatoa), avoiding a Malay pirate melee by...not paying them any attention, apparently. The whole thing's a little vague. The crew are more interested in a large school of sperm whales which provides, first, good slaughterin', and then tweaks Ishmael's sense o'wonder when they come across a group of females and their calves. His description of the cute and mystical baby whales is somewhat marred when he tells us about how a harpooned whale mom will spew milk and blood into the water like a fire hydrant. Strange man.
