Somebody's got a first edition of The Questor Tapes on eBay, signed by Gene Roddenberry. The auction ends in around half an hour.

Must not bid must not bid must not bid...

::nods::

If it'd been the hardback edition, I'd've been DOOMED.

Or if it'd been signed by DC Fontana.

I guess sometime I'll have to tell you my story about attending the wedding at Susan Sackett's house at which G. R. gave away the bride....

Ah, Gene. SF's drinky uncle.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "sf's drinky uncle." If you mean that Gene drank alcohol, yes, he drank that afternoon. At various times, I've also seen Jerry Pournelle, Poul Anderson, Joe Haldeman, Gordon Dickson, Wilson "Bob" Tucker, actor Nicholas Courtney, and many others drink alcohol. None of them, including Gene, were sloppy drunks or acted inappropriately, at least never in my presence.

Gene was a great guy that afternoon. I know he had many flaws, but also many strengths. It was an honor to know him, however briefly.

Okay, if I misunderstood you, I'm sorry. What did you mean?

To explain where I'm coming from, I've seen a lot of online swipes at G. R. over the years, going back to when I first got a modem in 1987 or '8, and I won't deny I'm a bit sensitive about it.

This is probably not a good place for you.

Okay....

I don't mean to sound clueless / dense, I'm just trying to not jump to any more conclusions, so if you'd be willing to elaborate, I'd appreciate.

If not, no problem.

I'm not a Gene-worshipper, if that means anything. I know full well about his many and varied flaws. I'm just saying that in my personal presence (four or five total occasions), he was always cool.

If it was just your sense of humor, also no problem. Again, sorry if I misinterpreted.
