Spent yesterday in bed and doped up, warding off cramps and knee pain from that goddamned luggage cart. Feh. Read a bunch:

--Eerie Queerie is fucking awful. It's like Yu Yu Hakusho, if YYK had no writing, art, story conception, character design, or heart. It's meant to be explicitly yaoi, but YYH even manages to be much, much gayer. Maybe it's all the pomade. You know you're in trouble when the back-up story is better than the ongoing series.

--Read a couple of Enid Blyton's Naughtiest Girl books. Man, she makes Angela Brazil look like Mickey Spillane.

--Thing on self-mutilation which had a bunch of really helpful tips was harrowing as fuck. Also, when I first typed that, I typed "mutilization." I could be President!

Sharon's Juri doll now has a head attached.

>>Eerie Queerie is fucking awful.<<

Really?! ::is sad:: I had such high hopes for it. Might still flip through it if I get the chance but thanks for the heads up.

Sorry you feel bad. *offers* Green tea? Pocky?

--Eerie Queerie is fucking awful.

They're holding a copy of it at for me at the anime pusher's. I had high hopes for it seeing as it looked slashy and all. Damn.

Enid Blyton's Naughtiest Girl books

Maybe I've had a deprived childhood. I've never read Enid Blyton that I can remember. But this sounds interesting...

Self-mutilation....not going there.

Juri doll - need pics.

It's very slashy. It's just not very good.

Blyton doesn't get much play in the U.S., what with the boarding schools and golliwogs and all. Our library, for example, has one paperback in one of the smaller branches.

Taking pics of Juri doll, but since there are 25 pictures left on the roll, it'll be a while.

I looked up Blyton in our catalog:

- 1 book with three stories. In German.
- 1 book with another story. In Thai.
- 1 book with yet another story. In English.
- 1 book on tape, unabridged, same story as above. In English.

Huh. I'm not sure what this says about my library.

Aww, that sucks. It really is bad when the backup story is better than the actual series.

This is at least the second of really bad slashy graphic novels you've read recently, isn't it? Or were you not part of the "Between the Sheets" crowd?

I guess the most we can hope for are the highly improbable gay police officers of FAKE. I swear they're all gay. Every single one of them.

Em...I don't exactly know you, but I have a question about Eerie Queerie... How many volumes are in the actual series?

Do you know? I can't find any information on it on the web, which is strange, because its a manga, an art form that enjoys particular dominance on the internet.

What exactly didn't you like about it? I've only read the first little story (I'm poor...can't afford it yet) but it seemed alright and was on my next-to-buy list. What about the plot seemed lacking? My biggest complaint was that it moved too fast. The main character starts out a loner for life, and then suddenly realizes he wants friends. The first ghost that inhabited him was freed from her "earthly bonds" far to soon for my liking. The character development isn't given a sufficient chance to occur naturally, and seems sped up simply to forward the plot.

The characters are all very cute in theory though...I'm especially fond of the first guy the main character asks on a date. (I can't remember his name at the moment.) He seems sweet, and I love shounen-ai!

Any comments or an answer to my first question would be appreciated! Thanks!

I haven't a clue how many volumes of Eerie Queerie are planned. Tokyopop has stopped listing the volume numbers of their series, which is really, really annoying. Perhaps there's a site out there devoted to the comic that can tell you?

Yes to all your comments on the story - too rushed, too little development, etc. The bishies are cute, but cute manga characters are pretty thick on the ground.

Oh yes, P.S. If you like slashy stuff though (I really don't know any thing about you...I just found this comment on a random search for eerie queerie stuff in an attempt to avoid my math homework) then you ought to read Gravitation. It's really hillarious and the characters are well developed. FAKE is also pretty good if you like drama and action, though it has a bit too much violence for my taste. If you know of any other shonen-ai mangas that are good, let me know! Thanks AGAIN. :)

I read the first volume of Gravitation, and while it was competently done, it didn't do much for me. I enjoy Fake very much, despite (or perhaps because of) the mangaka's complete disregard for any sort of realism on any level.

I'm not familiar with any other shonen-ai in English, apart from a few supporting characters in Utena and Sailor Moon - they get more time in the anime versions than the manga, though.

Ooops! I forgot. Les Bijoux seems all up with the shonen-ai, as does Under the Glass Moon. There's also some in Cardcaptor Sakura between Sakura's brother and his rather attractive friend.
