Still sewing. Was panicking over Gretchen's Kodama, until I finally found some really good refs online* and realized that it's pretty much impossible to do one that's hideously out of proportion. So that's a relief, and I'm hoping to get all his bits together this weekend. Yay.

*I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, Ann, why don't you just watch Princess Mononoke? Alas, I am under a curse which mandates that no matter how many times I rent the damned movie, circumstances will conspire to force me to return it to the Blockbuster bin unviewed.

Dude, I have just discovered Kyoko Yoneyama. I know full well that making dolls from patterns notated exclusively in Korean is the HOV lane to madness, but I am so, so tempted.

Your fortune: You will feed 'Kyoko Yoneyama' into the Amazon and eBay search engines and receive a lovely low-cost, English-language surprise.

I refuse to invest in any goddamn doll whose clothes cost more than mine do. Plus, they're big and scary and want to eat our souls.

I'm pretty sure that Anne Rice designed them. Aren't you pretty sure that Anne Rice designed them?

May I ask: Where did you learn to sew? It is one of the banes of my existence that I cannot sew, and I feel I must learn.

P.S. I find that Netflix helps a bit with the videoshop neuroses from which so many of us suffer.

My Mom showed me how to thread a needle when I was 6 or 7, and let me have at it.

Start with something easy-peasy, like a really basic embroidery thingie, or flattish stuffie. Beyond that...I, um, I dunno. I just hack at the fabric and sew the bits until it looks like something.

I can embroider a bit, and recently I learned to knit... so maybe there's hope for me yet on the sewing front.

And I *do* thread a needle quite nicely, I must say. ~g~

As far as I'm concerned, you've got the hard part down, then.

Umm... *shuffles*

I learned to sew from this. As an adult. The fairy-story aspect is actually rather charming, and as an introduction to hand-sewing, it rules. You'll be rolling and whipping like a pro in no time.
