phosfateHistory turns up in strange places.
I ordered a duplicate* of a Mickey and Minnie stuffed doll pattern off eBay. It dates from the 30s or 40s. It's one of those really old ones that isn't terribly on-model - both are kinda starved-looking, and Mickey, for some reason, has a scarf and peaked cap.
Anyway, the American sewing demographic at the time was such that the instructions are in English, French, and Italian. Cool.
