Nazi update

Demonstration consisted of 40 Nazis and supporters and 150 cops. Counter-demo and diversity picnic at Pioneers Park attracted approximately 1,500 people, who likely had a much better time.

So, to review. For a successful demonstration:
1. Snacks
2. Location
3. Don't be a goddamn fucking Nazi asshole

Ha! I love it when that happens. I went to Margate once (little coastal town in Southern England with a lot of immigrants - hence Nazi bait) on a counter-demo. Alledgedly, a whole train load of National Front demonstrators were going to turn up. The NF is probably the British equivalent of the Klan, only they're fascists to boot. In the end, there were about seven of them, about hundred of us, and about a hundred coppers with big dogs between us. A few bottles were thrown, but we pretty much laughed them off the street. It was great.

Holy shit, the National Front is still going strong? The first time I ever heard of them was watching the Clash-umentary, "Rude Boy." I hoped that it was just one of the many messed-up things that was wrong with England in the seventies that got resolved. WOW. Punk rock movies teach us things, and so does Livejournal.

Well, I wouldn't say going strong so much, seeing as there were only seven of them, but they certainly still exist in a very nasty way, as do equally Nazi-esque organisations like the British National Party. Don't think these things ever go away, they just fester.
