Had My First Mammogram[TM] this morning. I will spare you the details. Suffice to say that it was worse than, say, an ill-fitting underwire bra, but nothing like as bad as slamming a tit in the car door.

I am a bit concerned, because Big Nurse Rad Tech was missing large patches of hair.

Might not be the radiation, it might just be women she squished who lunged and ripped out her hair when set free.

My sis is a nurse, has been one for about 30 years, she says that a mammagram should *never*, *ever* hurt and if it does, the person who's doing it is doing it wrong and must be physically injured to teach them how to do it correctly. Or at least not to do it wrong. She also says you can cut down your odds of getting squished painfully by not allowing a male tech to do it to you. "Why?" I asked her, all a-quiver to gain knowledge. "Because they are a**holes," she said in the maternal tones of a village crone instructing a Young One in The Ways of the World.

Who knew?

At any rate, I've had three over the past 10 years (mammograms, not male techs) and they never, ever hurt. And there I was, looking forward to punching some poor tech out and all.

I had always been told that they shouldn't hurt, too.

While setting me up for the last one, she said, "If you'd stop your intake of caffeine a few days before the next time, it won't hurt as much."

"Oh," I said, smiling, "That is so not going to happen."
