Halloween was mostly teh lam0rz. The candy thing worked out, since we gave away maybe a third of what we bought - enough to make it feel worthwhile, yet keep us in a sugar buzz well through Thanksgiving. We've learned the hard way that buying cheap candy just isn't worth it. A tub full of Necco Wafers is the way to guarantee a massive ice storm and no trick-or-treaters.

Anyway, the whole day was dull until The Haunting came on at 9:00, and OH DEAR JESUS IT WANTS TO KILL US I'm fine now. My God, how many times has this movie been ripped off, and how badly?

A trip to the Ben Franklin store has yielded Valomilk, Big Chew, one of those round things whose name I forget but is made in the Palmer factory up t'Sioux City ways, and SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS! I haven't tried any of the others, but Squirrel Nut Zippers are totally excellent. Hooray for these.

Sorry, Big HUNK:

Ben Franklin is what we used to call a Dime Store, like Woolworths or Kresges. Now its money comes mainly from framing and scrapbooking, but ours still maintains its massive candy rack, mutant brandless toys, and things like sanitary belts, hairnets, mousetraps, and garters.

How come so many things on that website look like squares of poo? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, or anything, because usually candy that looks like poo tastes quite good because it means it's got lots of chocolate or caramel, but yeah. The world of American candy is so foreign to me! :O

Well...they're old (in design, I mean).

In all fairness, the round ones (like Goo Goo Clusters) look like poo patties.

As I recall, the band got the idea for the name because they were in the same town as the factory that made Squirrel Nut Zippers.

Was that the 1999 version of The Haunting? I hate scary movies because I've got a startle reflex a mile wide. But it was both liam and CZJ so I pysched myself up to seeing in the movie theater and ...

Gods but it wass boring! And if a scary movie fails to scare me, then it just sucks ass.

Hell no. The original from 1963, with Julie Harris.
