Amazon just recommended Random Harvest with Ronald Coleman and Greer Garson. I've actually seen this. It's the stupidest movie ever. We're talking late 1970s gen Trek martyred Mary Sue romance fanfic stupid.

It's stupid, is what I'm saying.

We're talking Fantastic Journey fanfic where Dr Willoway had a daughter who committed suicide so he could concentrate on his work better stupid.

Oh, lawd. I used to really love Ronald Coleman. He was in my favourite version of "The Prisoner of Zenda" and "Tale of Two Cities". I remember this movie...as, uh, painfully contrived. To say the least.

It started out kind of keen. Then...then...

I'm tempted to find the James Hilton novel to see if it's as bad.

But you know, I do recall that Carol Burnett did an absolutely brilliant parody of this movie on her show way back when.

Really? I must've seen it, but jeez, we were both still in single digits.

Not necessarily, The Carol Burnett Show went on into the 70's. I remember it because she did, naturally, the Greer Garson part and the running gag was the song "Pack Up Your Troubles". Harvey Korman did Ronald Coleman.

This vaguely, vaguely rings my bell. My grandmother allowed me to stay up late on Saturday nights while my parents were out and watch Mary, Bob Newhart, and Carol, on condition that I didn't complain about getting up for church the next morning. I never did.
