"To spend even 10 minutes in the movie's universe is to experience the Sartrean nausea of an utterly hollow head and heart....The film is airy and weightless, not like, say, chiffon, but like the black smoke of burning truck tires. In an ideal world, Marshall and the Ephrons should have to sharecrop, for all the good they've done for the culture."

I've finally read something about this movie that makes me happy. *loves The Village Voice*

Hahah! I remember I was really excited when I heard that they were doing Bewitched...Nicole as a witch again, and Jim Carrey as Darren (before they went with Will Farrell) and I thought it would be so cool. But then they went to Will Farrell (who I love, but he's just. not. Darren!) and this ridiculous actor premise, and yeah. Just...no. I'll probably see it anyway, but I know it's going to suck.

I heard (erroneously, as it turned out -- he's got a supporting role) that Stephen Colbert was to be Darren at one point, which would have been asskick. Even worse than a stupid sitcom remake, it's a meta stupid sitcom remake. Will Farrell plays an actor whose next project is a new Bewitched series. Nicole Kidman is cast as Samantha. But then it turns out she's a real witch and I just want to die of the dreariness of it all.

I will say one thing: The awfulness of the trailer made Revenge of the Sith a little more bearable by comparison.

The only way I'd go see this movie is if they started off with Will Farrell as Darren and then halfway through Stephen Colbert takes over the role, with no explanation given.

But that would inject a note of cleverness into the film, which of course is verboten in Hollyweird.

Particularly where Nora Ephron is concerned, I suspect.

Oh, I agree!

I have yet to understand the great affection so many people have for her moronic films. They just plain SUCK.

Dear God. Well, it looked pretty banal from the clips I've seen, plus I generally can't stand movie remakes of our old TV staples, but this looked particularly wretched.

Yeah the whole thing is really really stupid. If it was an actual remake, that might have interested me...but this whole actor thing is so stupid.

I love Steven Colbert! I'd make an exception for him. ;)

Yes. But it was shorter, and had better actors.

"What Lucas has devised, over six movies, is a terrible puritan dream: a morality tale in which both sides are bent on moral cleansing, and where their differences can be assuaged only by a triumphant circus of violence. Judging from the whoops and crowings that greeted the opening credits, this is the only dream we are good for. We get the films we deserve.

The general opinion of “Revenge of the Sith” seems to be that it marks a distinct improvement on the last two episodes, “The Phantom Menace” and “Attack of the Clones.” True, but only in the same way that dying from natural causes is preferable to crucifixion.

That's awesome. Thank you for the link.
