Really not a lot going on, unless you're desperately interested in automatic garage door openers, endless debates over the fate of a tree limb, or clothes shopping. I know I'm not.

Our new neighbors, whom we sensitively refer to as "The Asians," cut down all the giant dying pine trees left them by the previous owners. It was keen to watch. One guy climbs the tree, with one of those tree-climbing harnesses and an assortment of saws, then works his way down, cutting as he goes. Two-foot stumps drop from the sky, occasionally brushing a power line, and sawdust falls like snow. It's rather like an episode of Due South re-enacted by the Cirque du Soleil. We are in awe of The Asians.

We also went to the "good bakery" (Conroy's in College View), and the bakery lady asked me if I was Mom's caregiver. We were both already punchy from the raw, primal excitement of visiting the lumberyard, and I am afraid that we both fell to mad cackling, and the bakery lady was a bit miffed. Now whenever I don't automatically know the location of Mom's reading glasses, she tells me that I'm the worst caregiver ever and I'm fired.

We're like Showtime. We make excitement.

This comment made me spray diet pepsi out of my nose. Now the inside of my nose, she burns and it's all your fault!

I stopped speaking to the lady who lived there previously, when she told me that all them damn Koreans carry knives, breed like rabbits, live 35 to a room, etc. etc. So I am very glad to have them here. I hope that one day we can work out some sort of visual-based communication, and share ideas more complex than "Hello," "Careful with that chainsaw," or "For the love of God, don't fall."

["Careful with that chainsaw," and "For the love of God, don't fall," are conveyed in the same way, but with slightly different pointing.]

I've actually seen Koreans living such as you described in our neighborhood when we first moved in. However, most of them lived like that so they could save money and buy houses in nice neighborhoods and make the rest of us lazy native born americans look bad.

Can they speak English? We had a terrible time first living here, because all our neighbors were Asian and only their school aged children spoke any English.

Next up, juggling chainsaws

They're only clearing space to make room for the other 30 Koreans that are moving in, right?

They're mostly small. They could do it.

This... is a truly inspired metaphor. Or, well, simile.
