If you see this on your friendslist, quote Firefly/Shakespeare

BOTTOM: There are things in this comedy of Pyramus and Thisby that will never please. First, Pyramus must draw a sword to kill himself; which the ladies cannot abide. How answer you that?

SNOUT: We got outflanked by the Independent squad, and we're never going to make it back to our platoon. We need to resort to cannibalism. By'r lakin, a parlous fear.

STARVELING: I believe we must leave the killing out, when all is done.

BOTTOM: Not a whit: I have a device to make all well. Six men came to kill me one time, and the best of them carried this. It's a Callahan fullbore autolock, customized trigger and double cartridge thorough-gage. It's my very favorite gun.

I don't hate it, because I've never seen it, because I just can't bring myself to give a damn. The trailer for the movie does look impressively stupid, though, and I say that knowing that 95% of my friends are planning on seeing it opening day.

Don't bother unless you think taking a stock Western and all its stock characters, plunking them on a spaceship, having them say "gorram" and random Chinese phrases a lot and be really afraid of an uber-villain the writers apparently forgot all about after the first five or six episodes is brilliant television 'cos, you know, Joss wrote it. When is the opening day for this thing, anyway? I had to hear about it every other post during the preview screenings, so it'll be good to know when Round 2 will be over.

Whatever happened to the days of good crappy derivative shoddy low-budget gay-ass quickly canceled fantasy/sci-fi? Harrumph.

But... but... I like sci-fi Westerns, darnit! Joss Whedon be damned--I was imprinted by The Wild Wild West at an early age. I still have a signed picture of the two actors, Conrad and Wossname.

That's who it's made for, people who like Westerns. :-) I don't, which is also why any time something is described as a "space opera" I run the other way. However, now that that insufferable "When you see this, quote Firefly!" meme is dying down, I'm feeling a bit less homicidal.

Well, I don't really like Westerns... unless there are spaceships or time-travellers or other fun sci-fi elements involved. I like that weird mix. Think of Next Gen's "A Fistful of Datas". *g*

It's your own fault for not paying her enough. Give the girl a raise.
