"...a phantom avenger (Hugo Weaving) in a plastic Fawkes mask and Yoko Ono wig..."

Never mind seeing four of the most frightening words in the English language: "Produced by Joel Silver."

I can't bear to see the movie. It like the reviewers are too focused on this character as a single wacko, instead of an archetype created by the events in the book. Don't they unmask him too? Ugh. Alan Moore may be a crazy man about his work's managed rights, he's a genius writer. Fucking with his work just creates flops, or has everyone forgot about League of Mediocre Gentlemen? </rant&gr;

Not that I've heard, but it's possible. For me the cringey part is the legions of mask-wearing followers. 'Cause V is all about the cult of personality.

I'm still het up to see it, even knowing it'll suck. London on fire is a favorite personal trope.

I don't know. Possibly we're criminally insane. Or traumatized from reading 1984 at too young an age. Take your pick.

We're seeing it this weekend. I liked (just liked) the first Matrix movie, loved the second one, but could barely manage to sit through the last one. OTOH, Mr. Tiki thinks Wachowskis = Godz (a rare moment of bad taste, but we loves him anyways). And I loved the graphic novel. Saw the crew at Comic Con. Natalie Portman looks adorable, even bald. She's so teeny she could fit inside a thimble with room left over. And we got masks, which we will *not* be wearing to the premiere.
