I just got a newsletter from a secondary-market dealer of Disney tchotchkes. They're offering those foam-rubber Mickey head antenna toppers in red, white, and blue - which a month ago the local Disney store couldn't give away - for $16. (Original retail was an already inflated $3.00.)

That's pretty disgusting.

If they were offering to donate 15.50 cents for every sale to Disaster relief for 911, then it would be acceptable.

But how much yawannabet they got those things for pennies and are now attempting to make a killing on the spirit of patriotism that's flyin around?

I'm working on making flag pins. If I can do resonably enough so that the expense isn't too much on my pocket and I can make enough of them to sell, the idea will be that 100% of the profit will go to disaster relief.

Stuff like this pissed me off.

Well, I know it's gotta be tempting. The Mickey ears US flag pins are going from $15 to $30 on eBay, but 90+% of them are Auction for America items (and in any case you can't bitch about an auction, where the buyer shells out the money voluntarily). But this just...feh!

Cool! What kinda pins are you making?

Pins made with lots of safety pins and bead strung to make them look like little flags. It's hard to explain, but you might have seen them before.

DUDE! I love those! They're simple and cool and swell. LMK when they're done and I'll cough up the dough.

Er...metaphorically, not...oh never mind.

Sure, I will. Hopefully, I'll be able to buy some of the supplies tomorrow. There is a craft store a bit from here that sells stuff cheap. A lot of the "Can I" depends on how cheap I can get the beads and safety pins. My time to make them is nothing. :-)
