French press coffee turned out a little burnier than I really like. Perhaps less coffee next time.

Spent much of last night on a rickety ladder by the power lines, cutting tree limbs. This may get rid of a lot of the night-time Scary Mystery Noises, unless there's something else that can play a power line like a bow and make it go owwwomowooooooommmmmmm, like the Lost title music. Perhaps nocturnal invisible Sumatran bowbirds have invaded the neighborhood. Next: the roof.

Also removed bizarre length of chain-link that was hanging next to the power lines for no discernable reason. Perhaps the previous owners meant to grow something going up the house. These are the same people who had installed illegal cable and phone lines, and had them strung all over the house with staples. You don't want to know what their wallpaper was like. Even the cable guy was rather taken aback, and God knows he's seen everything.

Watched the first disk of Steam Detectives, which was quite charming. Design is reminiscent of Gigantor, but the stories are much better. Particularly noteworthy is the episode in which one of the villains develops a massive crush on the heroes' robot.

Oh, now. The only dicey bit was when a branch slipped out of the trimmer and was mysteriously replaced by a cable. "Huh. Oops."

I have an odd fascination with "Steam Detectives." I really need to pick those disks up.

The wallpaper... I've hysterically blocked some of the specifics. But the kitchen was this appalling mineral yellow with daisy pattern, complemented with badly-homemade cafe curtains with badly-embroidered daisies in colors that didn't quite match.

The second bedroom was the best. The walls were done in red-and-white vertical candy stripes. Except for the inside of the closet, which was papered in a Nebraska Cornhuskers football helmet pattern, also in red and white, albeit a red and white that, again, didn't quite match the stripes. The carpet might've been red as well, or I just dreamt it.
