Well, it seems to be a lovely little machine, approximately 1/3 the thickness of my old player. The remote buttons are very tiny and all the same color, except for the big red turn-me-on one. I think I need bifocals.

The clock/timer display is a 5cm blue disk right in the center front. There's no real reason for it to look like that, as near as I can tell, but it's got a kind of APPLIANCE OF THE FUTURE! charm, and a HAL 9000 thing that makes me want to not talk in front of it. The eye stays on even when you cut the power, and lights up the entire room when I'm trying to sleep.

Nova is doing an homage to Twin Peaks. Nova. The science show. I think I love you, Nova.

I have to cover my whole entertainment cart with a blanket and my alarm clock with a kleenex box at night to keep the green "aliens have landed" glow from keeping me awake.

Oh, I know the friendly red eyes that watch over your sleep! Normally there's just my eerie radio alarm that only does the random noise that all other radio alarms will do too in the future when all civilization has ended. But if I let my computer run over night and if I recharge my batteries I have six!

I figured out that I have to hit the physical power switch on the actual machine to turn the eye off.

It was kind of freaking me out.
