"People wonder what in the world it is because this is the Bible Belt, and everyone is afraid it's the end of times," said Steve Allen, a freight company owner and pilot who said the object he saw last week was a mile long and half a mile wide.

Wait. What?

The really scary thing is that our politicians (people like Bush and Huckabee) believe this crap about the end times and are actively trying to pave the way for the return of Christ and the end of the world.

I'm still stuck on working out how you get from "unidentified flying object" to "OMG END TIMES!"

These are the kind of people who see Jesus in a pancake and think "OMG END TIMES!!!1"

Not all Southerners are like that...

Also, I live near the world's biggest UFO reported siting...area...thing. That's a bad sentence. Anyway, as you would suspect, it's in between two air force bases. XD

Didn't say anything about Southerners.

I will, however, trash end-times fanatics and pancake worshippers with gleeful abandon.

Clearly they are referencing Cletus 12:37 -- And lo, there shall appear a great flying object over the unrighteous land of Texas. And there shalt be a great fear upon the land, and the object shall be 3,500 cubits in length, and half the length shall be the width. And the peoples of Texas shall be sorely afraid, for, lo, they have the brains of gnats.

(I estimated a cubit as half a meter, which is not exact but close enough for government work.)

Hey, not all Texans are followers of the book of Cletus!

Just sadly too many of them.

As much as I like to mock Texas, I totally sympathize. I grew up in WV and now live in FL, so I know what it's like to hear a mention of your home state on the news and cringe, thinking "Oh, god. What'd the pigfuckers do now?"

*nods* Texas does have much to mock - much to my shame. Personally, I like to make fun of the small East Texas town I was born in because, well, as you say it's the pigfuckers.

Of course, the first thing you'd think of is "the end times". Me, the first thing I'd think is "what the fuck is that?"
