Lungs seem to be functioning again, and the temperature's in the high 30s, so I was actually able to go outside for lunch. Alas, I forgot it was February 1, which here means two to three months of solid weirdness. Maybe it's the point where we start to accumulate Vitamin D again, I dunno.

So. Walked over to Dick Blick, since I used that whole pad of Bristol I got last month for Valentine art. Which I can't scan or post yet, since my scanner has died and they need to order a new one, which had better get here before time or I will be very, very pissed after sucking in all those marker fumes.

Turns out that Dick Blick is closing at the end of the month. Everything is half off. Which means I got some good stuff for cheap, but will also have to come up with new strategies for obtaining art supplies in the future, and they will cost more. Fudge.

I saw a chalked sign that said "SQUID SALAD!"

I got in an argument with the bookstore cat about where and when petting would take place. Then tried to convince another customer that said cat had once eaten a baby. "A baby what?" "The regular kind."

A young man driving by in a car felt compelled to let me know that "9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB!!!" Sorry, kid, but if you look at the photos, you'll see it was clearly outdoors. Also, so's your mom.

A grizzled prospector/hoboish gentleman meowed at me. Perhaps he's a friend of the cat's.

I was unaware that Dick Blick has stores. I've been buying art supplies from DickBlick.com exclusively for a few years, now. I get Prismacolor pencils for about 70ยข (closer to a dollar for some of the more unusual colours).

Edit - Sad. It appears as though pencils have gone up since last year. :(

Yup, they have stores. We've had a Blick here in one form or another for 20+ years.

Prismacolors just went up a chunk a few months ago. Gleep! Blick has started their own, less expensive house brand, but I don't know how compatible they are. I got an invisible blue one for sketching.

I like sketching with red, personally. Something about those invisible blue pencils just bothers me, for some reason. Too waxy, I think. They make mechanical pencil lead in red, which works a bit better than the red correction pencils.

Alas, I don't know how to make red disappear.

Easy.

Brightness + ~50%
Greyscale
Brightness + to get rid of any light grey lines that you don't want.
Contrast + ~80%

No red, and clean black lines. :)

There are other ways to do it, straight from the scan, but I find it's a little more reliable to do it by hand, because you can make sure everything's done right.

Nebraska. A strange, strange place.

Dick Blick online still seems to be in operation. Not as good as a local art store, I know, but I've been happy with the way they package stuff for mailing, especially boards -- they put corner-protectors on them, which I really appreciate.

They're calling it a "store consolidation sale," so the company's not going out of business. Just our store. Which had awesome stuff for all budgets, and a staff of really sharp kids.

ha, appropriate icon.

Also, so's your mom.

Less than three. Also I find the idea of human baby as a baseline of anything to be quite funny.

Your pimpage nearly had me buying a DIY mini-Munny at the store yesterday. I restrained myself (mostly because my other hand was full of Tokidoki merch). Now you've got me craving a Blick run. But it's all the way over by Fenway Park... *whines* *dances from foot to foot*

I have no self-control when it comes to art supplies.

Ooo, they're in stores? I'll have to go visit Bad Robot. I'm still working on regular-Munny Danny, but he's proven a bit challenging with the lack of contrast in his outfit. Also I lost his hat badge. Mini-Munny could be Cuddly Monkey...

Hey, look at that. It's a you. *pokes curiously*

I just said "Dick Blick" five times fast, and now it permanently sounds like a porno name to me. Yay?

I'm so glad to hear you lungs are functioning again. I hear breathing is a rather important function.

Sad to hear about the Dick Blick store. I have never seen a Dick Blick store, but I knew you could order from them online. However, I have the utterly awesome Texas Art Supply for my needs.

Dick Blick closing is just wrong. But I'm glad your lungs are back online.
