Dear People Who Call Your Pets 'Furbabies':

Please die in a fire.

Your pal,

But calling women's genitalia "furburgers" is still acceptable, right?

I'll be sure to tell the local clam warden.

That is, "feathered kids". Um, no. I sometimes call my birds children, outright, but we all understand that's metaphorical. "We" includes the birds.

*Does* anyone call them that? <goggles>

Mind you, I can't get on my high horse about anyone's sentimental behavior re: their pets, as my cats have always been a fantastic baby substitute: all of the cuteness and unconditional affection, none of the unpleasant bits (screaming with colic or whatever, helplessness, growing up to become surly teenagers, huge expense, needing much more attention than even the most affectionate and demanding kitty). I talk to them in baby talk (yeah, so sue me) and give them cutesy nicknames (although Moonshadow has escaped the extremes of that for some reason).

My husband and I will sometimes call our cats "the kids," or the "the boys," partly because we don't have intention of having actual kids.

Most times, though, it's "You fucking cunt! Get off that!"

It's these women on my doll mailing list. The posts about their pets are all headed "Furbabies," and I keep thinking they have kids with a dermatological condition.

My mind went straight to a branch off of the furry fetish, known as "baby furs."

Which is pretty damn disturbing. It's basically paedophilia that's legal, because the porn is drawn, and of animals, and not actually kids. >_O

They...they refer to their dolls as their kids too, don't they?

Some of them. Mind you, I can't say anything, since I usually call mine "You little bastards."

I have a good, long-time friend who does that. She is otherwise pretty cool. But man, I wish she would not call her 2 cats and a Papillon (a small, gremlin-looking dog) her fur-babies. It just takes me right out of the conversation when she does.

If I am ever faced with someone who uses the word "Furbabies" in any context other than talking about particularly hairy children, I will be sure to set them aflame.

Speaking as someone who has entirely too many pets that all get mondo amounts of attention and affection, I agree and will support legislation to that effect.

My dog drops giant clumps of fur around the house when he's blowing his coat (eleven months out of the year) and I call those furbabies, is this OK?

God, yis. Do they not know the other meaning of "furbaby"?

Not to mention, I've had pets, and I've had one baby and minded many more, and trust me. It's NOT THE FUCKING SAME.

My best friend is a vet and neither one of us has heard "Furbabies"...I think it's particularly scary. Sure, my cat is adorable and spoiled, but she's often referred to in conversations as "evil on a stick" instead of my "baby".

If I were on a jury hearing the case against you for killing someone who said "Furbaby" I would find you not guilty.
