Had to take the car in for her fourth or fifth free replacement muffler, and general looking-over. This isn't usually a big deal. However, my mechanic moved from three blocks from my house to a new place out in...Walton? Bennet? Walton I think.

It's one of those towns that is so small, you're most likely to have experienced it as a grain elevator passing by a train window; or a clutch of trees, a gas station, and a fenced-in trailer with 5 angry rottweilers seen from a highway.

So I drove out there this morning, but kind of overshot the town, then couldn't turn around because apparently some rural people really, really like to tailgate, and ended up out in Eagle. I pulled over into a mini-mart and phoned for directions.

"Wow, you really missed the turn!" Wow, I really did. So I found them and a nice man drove me in to work in his giant SUV.

Why go to all the trouble? you ask. Simply put: he's a very, very good mechanic.

Happily, it was a lovely morning.

A good mechanic you can trust is definitely worth a longer drive.
