Usually outside has all kinds of nifty Easter eggs. Like, Saturday I got the neverending battle between mallhawk and blackbirds, and a couple of feral cats, and the usual bunnies and squirrels and those things that look like giant flying pornstaches. Some kinda carrion bird they re-introduced, I dunno.

Today, I got ant swarms. Three, in different places. Two were horizontal ant rivers along stretches of sidewalk. The third was this massive pile of ants by the minimart, and looked like the deluge in that silent Noah's ark film that's supposed to have drowned a bunch of extras.

I don't like to be all judgy about nature, but I really do not approve of swarms of things.

Something vultury or condory. Very large, ride thermals up high, circle around watching for carrion and purse dogs.

That's more the hawks, though, really. Sometimes, on a still afternoon in the mall parking lot, you hear "YARP! YARP yarp _{yaaaaaarp..."} and a woman's shrieks.

I HATE ANTS. This weekend, Cache must've sat down in a pile of them and has antbites all over his tummy.

Which, of course, sucks. But worse? THEY CAME IN WITH HIM. Into my bed. I found some crawling off him. Now I have to be Ant Monitor before he's allowed into bed.

*shudder* Whenever someone decides to tease me about my squeemishness around insects or swarming ants, I tell them about the two times I had fire ants crawling in my bed, once while I was in it, and that I think I've earned my quirky little concern.

I do not approve of ants. Ants are my mortal enemies. Seriously. I am extremely allergic to ant bites, as in does anyone have an EpiPen handy. They say that places around the country - Texas in particular - are having more problems with ants this year. I know I've been poisoning a lot more ant bed this year. (Die, ants! Die!)

On the other hand, I'm extremely curious about your "giant flying pornstaches". What the heck are these?

Ooo. I've seen those things before. We have a lot of them around here. Several months ago, I was driving on the west side of town - one of those neighborhoods with lots of green space and homes that cost more than I will make in a lifetime - and there on the road were about 8 or 10 of them apparently chowing down on the day's buffet. They were big enough and feisty enough that they didn't give a damn about the cars on the road. I and the other drivers had to swerve into the other lane to avoid them.
