The Mouse and His Child. Way cool and shamefully neglected movie, one of the few pre-Little Mermaid cartoons with songs that didn't make you want to smother yourself with a big pillow. (Composer Roger Kellaway is a jazz musician with a long string of albums.) Pay-cable mainstay during the early 1980s. Got great reviews and won froufrou awards, but seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth. Little or no merch exists for it (though it may be different in Japan, since Sanrio made the movie) - there's a really nice one-sheet poster, an edition of the book with the movie art on the cover, and possibly a set of lobby cards.
The dog on the dog food can ("There's one, and another, and another, and another...") was Bonzo, 20th century British icon who can be found on pottery, postcards, etc., and gave the Bonzo Dog Band its name.
The book, by Russell Hoban, is insanely cool and was re-released last fall in a lovely new hardback edition by Scholastic - apparently they're putting some of that Harry Potter money into experimenting with books that are actually attractive. Your local shop probably has it, if not, Amazon does. Go get it now.
