I just have difficulty seeing Jessica with a handgun. Maybe a shotgun, instead? Or maybe a blunt object (fireplace poker, garden shovel, a Tony award).

Is your take on Murder, She Wrote the official "JB Fletcher writes novels and solves murders" one, or is it the alternate "JB Fletcher writes novels and is an extremely successful secret serial killer?" The one where the explanation for all the murders that take place around Jessica is the one that doesn't depend on wow, what a coincidence?
I can go either way, though I think Jessica would find actually murdering people to be a serious waste of resources that she could be putting in her books, which we see generate a hell of a lot of money. Maybe she does the occasional non-lethal neighbor drugging or paintball attack just to test stuff out.
