Argh. Went home and quietly expired. Life saved by Viedma's mention of Daniel Pinkwater right before I left - dug out my copy of 5 Novels, which saved me from a life of despair, crime, addiction, and the afternoon Trading Spaces repeat.

John Cleese was right, kids: fresh fruit kills.
