Even without myself being a fan of Lemony Snicket, I can see where this would be an abomination to those who are.

Actually, Jim Carrey doing anything but getting permanent, incurable laryngitis that ends his Hollywood career forever is, well, an abomination.

Maybe it'll go down the drain with other fabulous casting ideas as David Schwimmer as Agent J and Nicholas Cage as Superman.

Well, tough shit, Mr. Carrey, you can't have everything you want.

But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can FUCK OFF AND DIE.

That, and a class of parsley soda, and i'm much better. Except not really.

But he could prove us all wrong?

Well, the two possible best outcomes are:

1. Mr Carrey proving us all wrong and turning in a commendable performance,

or

2. Mr Carrey being struck by space debris and instantly vaporised.

I'm cool with either of those.

You know, once the initial HORROR wore off, I realized that he's perfectly capable of giving a truly menacing and terrifying interpretation of the psychotic eeeevil of Count Olaf. But HE WOULDN'T because he w/couldn't subordinate himself to the part. And that, my friends, is even worse.

Jim Carrey ...

From: [identity profile] paradisacorbasi.livejournal.com
...is capable of more than hopping around like a moron like Ace Ventura and The Mask.

...is capable of more range than The Duck Factory and Once Bitten.

...had his last jumpity-wacky-man hurrah as The Grinch, I think.

...is getting too old to do more jumpity-wacky-man roles.

...gave a fine showing of himself in Liar Liar, The Truman Show, and The Majestic -- all underrated films that show he is capable of more than yelling, screaming, and making stupid potty humor references.

Give him a chance.

People boggled at Michael Keaton as Batman.
They boggled at Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man.
They boggled at George Clooney as Batman [okay, bad example].

Besides, Count Olaf is supposd to be an over the top, classic, moustache-twirling nyah-ha-hah!, tie-you-to-the-train-tracks Snidely Whiplash-got-nuthin-on-me bad guy.

Even downplaying his jumpity-wacky-man schtick, Carrey is suited for the role.

If you're gonna slam the poor guy, suggest someone better.

First person who says Robin Williams gets a pot of chilled, boiled okra down the pants.

Actually I didn't care much for Michael Keaton as Batman (or Jack Nicholson as the Joker, for that matter), and I was one of the people who said give him a chance. So that argument doesn't hold much sway with me.

As for my suggesting somebody better for the role (oh, gosh, pretty much any male and quite a few female members of SAG), how on earth is that going to affect the situation? It might kill some time on a long drive, but my influence with American filmmaking pretty much stopped after my brain was harvested from its hidden cryogenic vault under Sleeping Beauty's castle and transplanted into a trusting little girl's body I filled out that survey about the Death to Smoochy trailer. And they released the movie anyway.

They changed the ending for T2 because of audience reaction.

So they do pay some attention to the filmgoing public.

Maybe you could write whatever studio is producing the film and eloquently tell them in your ever so cool Anne Larimer way while you believe Mr. Carrey is ill-suited to the role, and inform them that you will use your considerable RL and internet influence to get friends and acquaintances to boycott.

Hmm. What about Alan Rickman or Ron Silver [the poor man's Alan Rickman]?

Better evil?

Alan Rickman would be okay. But when I see Count Olaf, I want to see Count Olaf, not Alan Rickman, ykim? They should use someone heretofore unknown.

Haha! I didn't see this one.

Of course your hand slipped on the keyboard, and you meant to say that Jim Carrey "wants to play a meaningless tertiary character killed by Count Olaf." Perhaps in the course of a horrid dinner of pasta puttanesca.

Right?

Right?
