Actually I didn't care much for Michael Keaton as Batman (or Jack Nicholson as the Joker, for that matter), and I was one of the people who said give him a chance. So that argument doesn't hold much sway with me.
As for my suggesting somebody better for the role (oh, gosh, pretty much any male and quite a few female members of SAG), how on earth is that going to affect the situation? It might kill some time on a long drive, but my influence with American filmmaking pretty much stopped after my brain was harvested from its hidden cryogenic vault under Sleeping Beauty's castle and transplanted into a trusting little girl's body I filled out that survey about the Death to Smoochy trailer. And they released the movie anyway.
They changed the ending for T2 because of audience reaction.
So they do pay some attention to the filmgoing public.
Maybe you could write whatever studio is producing the film and eloquently tell them in your ever so cool Anne Larimer way while you believe Mr. Carrey is ill-suited to the role, and inform them that you will use your considerable RL and internet influence to get friends and acquaintances to boycott.
Hmm. What about Alan Rickman or Ron Silver [the poor man's Alan Rickman]?
